What About Server-Side Includes?

While similar functionality can be achieved with the #nstcl command in server-parsed HTML, ADPs offer the following improvements:

• improved variable scoping

• a bound connection that lets you use the Tcl commands that require the connection variable as an argument

• simpler syntax, which, among other things, allows you to have the double quote character anywhere in the embedded script

• the ability to abort processing of an ADP in the middle and return a fully-formed HTML response

• the ability to stream output in the response if a page might take a long time to generate, such as a search results page
